Society of Professional Journalists' Code of Ethics

According to The Society of Professional Journalists, these are the Code of Ethics:

  • Seek Truth and Report It. Ensure the information you are acquiring is credible, refrain from using stereotypes and bias, and do not falsify reports. 
  • Minimize Harm. Protect confidentiality and have empathy for those involved. 
  • Act Independently. Do not allow personal bias or bribery to influence the validity of the story.
  • Be Accountable. Allow room for critiques, reveal unlawful practices by corporations or other journalists, and address any mistakes made and rectify them.
