Graduate Studies Workshop Series
Basic Research Workshop
This basic session is for grad students with little or no experience in online database searching. Trinity’s library has nearly 50 outstanding subscription databases where you can find scholarly articles without the nuisance of having to pay for them or be distracted by advertisements. In this workshop, you’ll learn about the deep web, the literature review, some basic search strategies in general databases to find books and articles online, and how to customize Google Scholar. You’ll also find out how to get research help in person, online, and when you’re struggling. Registration is preferred and can be done by emailing Trinitylibrary@trinitydc.edu. This workshop takes place in the Sheehan Library, room 201.
Workshop Duration: 50 minutes
Advanced Research Workshop
This advanced session is for grad students who are familiar with online database searching and have used or know about the library’s basic services. In this workshop, we’ll explore more databases and search tools, the research implications of the current information economy, and how to immerse yourself in the literature of your field so that you gain confidence in your subject expertise. Students will learn to cite and manage multiple sources with ease using Zotero, a citation management plug-in that helps make the writing process smoother and more enjoyable. Zotero lets you save valuable full-text sources as you find them, saving you time during the research process. Students are strongly encouraged to attend the basic workshop first. Registration is preferred and can be done by emailing Trinitylibrary@trinitydc.edu. This workshop takes place in the Sheehan Library, room 201.
Workshop Duration: 80 minutes
