Microsoft Word Basics: Helpful Tools

This section contains information about helpful tools in Microsoft Word.

Read Aloud

You can make Word read your paper aloud with the Read Aloud tool under the REVIEW tab.

When you click the Read Aloud tool, the computer will begin reading where your cursor is placed. 

Word Count

You can check the word count of your paper by using the Word Count tool under the REVIEW tab.

When you click the Word Count tool, you will get a dialogue box that gives you the full statistics of your paper.

Alternatively, you can check the word count of your paper by looking at the bottom left of the screen:

Zooming

You can make text larger or smaller by using the Zoom tool under the VIEW tab.

When you click the Zoom tool, you will get a dialogue box that gives you zooming options.
